PFDM at Developer Forum: XR Industry and Materials

September 18–19, the “2023 China VR/AR Technology Developer Forum & Fourth Smart Terminal Industrial Design Forum” was held in Dongguan, Guangdong. Over 200 experts discussed whole-device design, thermal management, optics, new materials, and manufacturing. Li Dong, Head of Industrial Design at PFDM, spoke on “VR Industry Status and Materials Trends,” covering the evolution and value of industrial design in VR and the industry’s direction.
Founded in 2020, PFDM focuses on spatial computing devices to deliver new digital entertainment, change how information is accessed, advance the 3D revolution, and support human progress. Two milestone XR products have been released.
Li noted that as XR accelerates, structure and materials are critical—they shape appearance, experience, and brand value, integrating engineering at a high level.
He also analyzed the VR industry’s present and future, especially the practicality and feasibility of industrial design: “VR industrial design is like the universe—as far as you can see, you can go—a revolutionary way we access and process information.” He reiterated PFDM’s mission and vision: help more people “play their dreams” and change how information is accessed.

Guided by “at the crossroads of technology and humanity,” PFDM is developing its third-generation spatial computing device. As one of China’s few full-stack independent teams, over 70% of staff are in R&D across algorithms, software, hardware, and industrial design, with top-tier product definition and R&D capabilities.
PFDM is expanding from VR-only to a multi-product portfolio centered on MR (spatial computing) as the key gateway to the spatial computing era. The company will keep exchanging ideas with peers and collaborating with the industry to advance devices and applications.
